Abstract

The construction industry is increasingly recognizing the critical role of green building technologies in promoting environmental sustainability and enhancing building efficiency. This paper explores the integration of green building technologies in the construction industry, particularly focusing on their application within Malaysia's rapidly growing urban landscapes. The primary objectives of this research are to evaluate the current adoption levels of green building technologies, identify the key benefits and challenges associated with their implementation, and develop strategies to enhance their uptake in Malaysia. A qualitative research method was employed, utilizing questionnaires distributed to professionals including developers, architects, and contractors who are actively engaged in the construction sector. The findings indicate that while there is significant awareness of the benefits—such as energy efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and improved occupant health—the adoption rates are hindered by factors such as cost, lack of expertise, and insufficient regulatory incentives. The paper concludes that robust policy frameworks, combined with targeted educational programs and stronger industry collaborations, are essential to increase the implementation of green building technologies. By doing so, the construction industry can substantially contribute to sustainable development goals while also gaining economic benefits through operational savings. In summary, this research underscores the necessity for a strategic approach to embed green building practices in the Malaysian construction industry to meet both environmental targets and market demands
