Abstract

The United Nations (UN) has adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, focusing on economic, social and environmental sustainability to safeguard the future of the planet and humanity. Reduced inequalities (SDG10) is crucial for sustainable development, requiring a collaborative approach from organisations and academic institutions. Given the pivotal role of firms in achieving SDGs, particularly SDG10, companies are encouraged to use innovative ideas to overcome barriers to sustainable development. This study explores factors influencing firm engagement in reduced inequalities, focusing on employee engagement, corporate culture and the adoption of artificial intelligence. A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted to collect data via an electronic questionnaire from 208 full-time employees in Malaysian public listed companies. Hereinafter, analysis using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Partial Least Square – Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM or SmartPLS) revealed that employee engagement and corporate culture impact firm engagement in reduced inequalities, either directly or through the adoption of artificial intelligence. From a practical perspective, the findings underscore the importance of active employee engagement and a positive corporate culture in promoting adoption of artificial intelligence and enhancing firm engagement in reduced inequalities (SDG10)
