Abstract

Whistleblowing is an important tool in reporting wrongdoings and fighting with corruption. Despite the introduction of Whistleblower Protection Act 2010, but whistleblowing activity still remains a rare occurrence in Malaysia. Malaysia’s corruption level had continuously deteriorated for 4 years. Fraud incidents in Malaysia also indicates a high level. Hence, whistleblowing as a part of corporate governance shall be educated wisely to Malaysia employees so that we could have a healthy corporate culture. This study intends to examine the effect of whistleblowing education and organisational climate on the employees’ whistleblowing intention and how moral identity mediated these relationships. To achieve the objectives of this research, a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional method have been employed using 201 employees who are currently working in Klang Valley public companies. The data obtained are then analysed via Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 29.0. The findings exhibited that moral identity mediates the relationship between whistleblowing education and organisational climate towards whistleblowing intention. It sheds light on how organisational factors like whistleblowing training programmes and climate within organisation can influence the intention to whistleblow. From practical perspective, the research's findings demonstrate the importance of whistleblowing education and organisational climate as well as enhancing moral identity of the management when accepting whistleblowing reports
