Abstract
Physical activity, diet, and sleep as part of lifestyle choices have a significant impact on mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety. The present study identified the level of depression and anxiety among young adults in Selangor. This study also examined lifestyle choices (physical activity, diet, sleep) as significant predictors of depression and anxiety among young adults in Selangor. A quantitative cross-sectional design was adopted in this study and conducted among 182 working young adults and university students. The participants were then administered the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP II), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale. The IBM Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 25.0 was used to analyze the descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression in this study. The results showed that sleep was a significant predictor in predicting depression and anxiety among young adults in Selangor, whereas, physical activity and diet were not significant predictors in predicting depression and anxiety among young adults in Selangor. Based on the findings, developing appropriate measures and intervention-based programs to promote mental health and healthier lifestyle choices among young adults should be implemented
