Abstract
This thesis explores the design principles in Keith Chong’s "Lawak Kampus" comic series, focusing on how elements like line, shape, form, repetition, rhythm, and balance contribute to its appeal. The study employs a qualitative research design to delve into readers’ perceptions and interpret the visual language used in the comic. Through a detailed analysis of Chong’s work and interviews with avid comic readers, the research highlights how the strategic use of visual elements enhances storytelling and engagement. The theoretical framework is grounded in Broudy’s art appreciation theory, emphasizing sensory, formal, and expressive properties to understand the aesthetic and emotional impact of the comic. The findings reveal that Chong’s effective use of visual language not only defines characters and settings but also evokes humor and relatability, making "Lawak Kampus" a beloved series among its audience. This research contributes to the broader understanding of visual communication in comics and provides insights into the successful design strategies of Keith Chong’s work
