Abstract

The research investigates the role of construction companies in enhancing soft skills for quantity surveyors, addressing a gap in the current literature. The study identifies key soft skills such as communication, negotiation, leadership, and teamwork that are crucial for QS professionals, reflecting the industry's evolving expectations beyond technical competencies. The aim of the research is to evaluate how construction companies assess and promote these skills through surveys, workplace observations, performance appraisals, and role-plays. A quantitative methodology was employed, utilizing a questionnaire distributed among industry professionals to collect primary data, supplemented by secondary literature. The findings reveal that communication and problem-solving are prioritized by employers, while workplace observation and peer feedback emerge as effective methods of assessment. The study concludes with recommendations on best practices, such as coaching and mentoring, workshops, and integrating e-learning platforms, which can optimize soft skills development. Ultimately, these initiatives aim to improve project performance, team collaboration, and the overall professional growth of quantity surveyors in the Malaysian construction industry.
