Abstract
The Malaysian construction industry is gradually adopting digital transformation, with drone technology off ering signifi cant potential to improve effi ciency, safety, and data accuracy. However, drone adoption remains limited and under-researched in Malaysia's construction sector. This study examines stakeholders’ awareness, usage, perceived benefi ts, and challenges regarding drone implementation. The research aims to assess the current state of drone use in the industry, identifying common applications, evaluating professional awareness and acceptance, and exploring barriers to wider adoption. A quantitative approach was used, with data collected via structured questionnaires from construction professionals, analyzed through descriptive statistics. The fi ndings indicate that drones are mainly used for site surveying, progress monitoring, and aerial photography. Benefi ts such as enhanced safety, reduced manpower, and faster data collection were acknowledged. However, challenges like high initial costs, lack of technical expertise, unclear regulations, and resistance to change slow down adoption. This study provides valuable insights into drone use in a developing market and emphasizes the need for targeted training, government incentives, and clearer regulations to foster broader adoption. The fi ndings off er practical guidance for policymakers, construction fi rms, and educational institutions seeking to enhance the sector’s technological capabilities.
