Abstract

Interactive storytelling is crucial for kindergarten children to develop receptive and expressive vocabulary. This study aimed to determine the impact of interactive storytelling on kindergarten children's receptive and expressive vocabulary and to identify the specific aspects of interactive storytelling that influence kindergarten children's receptive and expressive vocabulary. The true experimental design was carried out in Tadika Big Apple Setapak with 10 children in 5 to 6 years old. The data was collected with two groups of children including the control group and experimental group. The control group had conventional storytelling sessions, while the experimental group had interactive storytelling sessions. The results showed that children were able to understand the 5 target words through receptive and expressive vocabulary intervention. The data collection had been run in the paired sample t-test to compute the difference of the two group. As a conclusion, the study showed the essential of interactive storytelling to develop children’s vocabulary. Keywords: Interactive storytelling, receptive and expressive vocabulary
