Abstract
This report presents the development of an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report for Nibou Industries (M) Sdn. Bhd., a Malaysian SME in the food and beverage distribution sector. The objective is to enhance sustainability performance, improve corporate transparency, and align business practices with established ESG standards. The report also aims to serve as a reference model for similar SMEs undertaking ESG adoption. The project adopts a structured, industry-relevant approach by applying the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) framework, specifically the Food Retailers and Distributors industry standard, alongside the Sustainable ESG Disclosure Guide (SEDG) and ETI Base Code. The reporting period spans from 1 January to 31 December 2024. Data were gathered through interviews, surveys, site visits, and document analysis, with equal emphasis on all three ESG pillars. Key findings indicate gaps in employee training, safety awareness, supplier monitoring, and risk management. Although policies on anti-corruption and health and safety exist, implementation is inconsistent. The report recommends practical improvements, including energy and waste tracking systems, formal safety training, whistleblowing enhancements, and basic risk governance measures. The report concludes by identifying future directions, including ongoing performance tracking, expanded employee engagement, and adoption of broader disclosure frameworks. It also highlights the importance of involving external stakeholders and assessing internal management practices as part of future ESG research and implementation. Through this project, Nibou Industries takes a foundational step towards sustainable growth, improved compliance, and greater accountability to its stakeholders.
