Abstract
This research aims to develop a smart farm capable of self-maintenance by applying the Internet of Things (IoT) concept. The farm will be equipped with edge devices such as sensors and actuators to collect data and perform automated irrigation. This study outlines the development process and evaluates the effectiveness of closed-loop intelligent systems in maintaining irrigation and monitoring crop health, specifically focusing on ginger. The devices utilized in this research employ a combination of LoRa and Wi-Fi for communication in transmitting and receiving data. Additionally, real-time monitoring of plant is achieved using an infrared camera, which captures images of the plants and facilitates the calculation of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). The proposed system offers an alternative to traditional farming methods by deploying multiple edge devices and software programming, reducing the need for extensive manpower and expert farmers. The deployed edge devices collect farm data and upload it to a server for analysis, enhancing understanding of crop photosynthesis status. This research is conducted in an outdoor environment, emphasizing the significant role that environmental conditions play in plant photosynthesis capability due to limited sunlight exposure. The research finding during thirteen days duration the fifth day of the research the outdoor environment has the best condition with the average temperature 26.1 degree Celsius and a day that was not cloudy which in turn able to capture the best NDVI value among the thirteen days duration.
