Abstract

This project focuses on the development of a biometric authentication system integrated with an IoT lockbox, addressing the need for secure and efficient access control in modern security solutions. The existing challenge in ensuring robust security for personal or high-value assets lies in the vulnerability of traditional authentication methods like PINs or physical keys. By leveraging biometrics, such as facial recognition and fingerprint scans, this project offers a more reliable and tamper-resistant approach to authentication. The system is designed with multiple modules, including user registration, authentication, access control, and activity logging. It secures sensitive biometric data using encryption technologies like AES-256 for data at rest and TLS for data in transit. Role-based access control (RBAC) is also implemented to restrict access based on user roles, enhancing security. A hybrid agile methodology was used for the project, integrating design, coding, testing, and iteration cycles. The system undergoes rigorous testing, including functional testing for access attempts and validation of user roles, as well as security assessments to detect vulnerabilities such as replay attacks and unauthorized access. The outcome demonstrates that the biometric authentication system effectively addresses the identified security issues, ensuring that only authorized users can access the IoT lockbox. While the system strengthens access control, ongoing optimization is needed to enhance scalability and accommodate future advancements in biometric technology. Overall, the project offers a secure, user-friendly solution for modern access management challenges.
