Abstract

The proposed project aims to develop a smart parking management system to address the inefficiencies of conventional parking operations. The system utilizes IoT technology, with infrared sensors to monitor parking slot occupancy and a camera to capture vehicle license plates for accurate data tracking. Python scripting is employed on a Raspberry Pi to process sensor data, while the Firebase database ensures real-time synchronization. A mobile application, developed in Kotlin using Android Studio, provides users with a seamless interface for checking parking availability, requesting assistance, and managing parking lot statuses. Administrators can oversee operations and respond to user requests efficiently. The project follows the waterfall model, dividing development into structured phases, including requirement gathering, system design, implementation, testing, and deployment. This approach ensures each phase is thoroughly completed before progressing to the next, enabling systematic development. Comprehensive testing such as unit testing, integration testing, system testing, and user acceptance testing was conducted to validate the system's functionality, reliability and usability. The final outcome is a robust and efficient smart parking system that optimizes parking space usage, reduces traffic congestion, and improves user satisfaction. By integrating IoT hardware with real-time data updates and a user-friendly mobile interface, the system delivers significant benefits for both administrators and users. Future improvements, such as enhancing weatherproofing for sensors and refining camera accuracy, can further elevate its performance and adaptability.
