Abstract

This study aimed to profile and compare the physical characteristics of university-level female netball team players by positions (attacker, midcourt, and defender) at TARUMT. A total of 21 players aged 18 to 25 were assessed using a cross-sectional descriptive design. Physical measurements included height, weight, body mass index (BMI), agility (505 test for both legs), leg power (single-leg hop for both legs), speed (5 m and 10 m sprints), and aerobic capacity (Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1). One-way ANOVA revealed no statistically significant differences (p > .05) across playing positions in any of the measured variables although some descriptive variations were observed. Additionally, one-sample t-tests showed no significant differences in anthropometric characteristics (height, weight, BMI) compared to normative data from previous studies (p > .05). However, significant differences were observed in physical performance metrics, specifically agility, leg power, speed, and aerobic endurance when compared to benchmarks from higher-level netball populations (p < .05). These findings provide foundational insights for sports scientists and coaches to guide position-specific training, while highlighting the need for ongoing monitoring and structured development programs tailored to the demands of university-level netball.
