Abstract
Green buildings have gained increasing attention in Malaysia as part of sustainable development, yet the adoption in residential market remains limited. This study examines homebuyers’ preferences toward residential green building in Klang Valley, focusing on preferred features, influencing factors, and strategies to increase demand. Building on insights from previous research, the study examines the relationship between green building features, the influencing factors and strategies to increase green building demand. In this research, a quantitative method was used to collect and analyse data. The primary data source was a questionnaire survey, created using Google Form and distributed to the public in Klang Valley. In short, the results show that homebuyers prefer green features categories, including energy efficiency and indoor environment quality, specifically attributes, including durable and non toxic construction materials and low chemical materials and finishes. Besides, respondents indicated that financial consideration and location emerged as important determinants, specifically property price and mortgage accessibility. In addition, respondents suggested that financial incentives and addressing perceived high cost are viable strategies to promote green building, particularly through government schemes and disclosing the cost and benefits of green building. Overall, these insights offer guidance for policymakers and developers in aligning residential projects with buyer expectations and supporting the growth of green building in Malaysia
