Abstract

Traditional gates require manual operation and even basic automated gates controlled by remote have limitations such as restricted range and lack of safety features. The innovation of automation has made people’s lives much easier. It connects the society with technology which makes the society more advanced and developed. However, a basic automated gate using a remote-control button cannot satisfy some user’s demand. Hence, there were more and more gates that are using smart system which includes Internet of Things (IoT). Some may add RFID to enhance the security of the gate. Nevertheless, many ignored the safety mechanism of a household sliding gate. This project proposes the design of a Wi-Fi–based IoT smart sliding gate with an integrated obstacle detection system to improve both convenience and safety in residential environments. To overcome the issues met by traditional gates, the system will be developed using an ESP32 microcontroller, a HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor and a buzzer for real-time obstacle detection and alert system. Furthermore, Wi-Fi connectivity will enable smooth integration with smart home applications, allowing users to control the gate remotely through IoT platforms. The proposed system is expected to enhance security, prevent accidents, and provide a reliable smart home solution that addresses the limitations of conventional gate systems
