Abstract

This study explored the challenges faced by preschool teachers in implementing STEAM education and identified strategies to improve its accessibility and effectiveness in early childhood classrooms. A qualitative case study approach was adopted, involving six preschool teachers from Klang Valley. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed several challenges, including the complexity of integrating interdisciplinary STEAM subjects, time and workload constraints, difficulties in adopting a facilitator role and challenges in assessing learning outcomes. In addition, teachers identified effective strategies such as inclusive teaching practices, developmentally appropriate instruction, motivational support, real-world integration and institutional support. The study concluded that while STEAM education offers significant benefits for young learners, its successful implementation depends on teacher readiness, professional development and institutional support.
