Abstract
Horde Survivor is a roguelike zombie shooter game that is developed to explore various designs and implementations for a mobile zombie shooter game that is combined with random ordered waves of enemies. The main objective of the game is to make it an engaging and replayable gameplay experience for the player through integrating modular systems such as skill selection, character unlock and selection, equipment upgrades, inventory management, gacha based reward system and various different boss combinations. The game focuses on the increasing difficulty as the game progresses and requires the player to make rapid decisions, encouraging them to develop skill combinations that work well together and are flexible to face different types of enemies across multiple runs. The implementation of the game is carried out using Unity and C# with Scriptable Objects, inheritance, interfaces as well as JSON files that are used to save the player’s persistent data. The developed system then undergoes various testing such as unit testing, integration testing and user acceptance testing to verify the correctness of the functionality and the stability of the system. Furthermore, the user experience was also evaluated by using the Game Experience Questionnaire (GEQ) that focuses on components such as challenge, flow, sensory immersion and affective response. The results have shown that the game is able to provide the player with a balanced and immersive gameplay experience. The project has demonstrated how a well designed gameplay system that is combined with different types of testing is able to create a high quality roguelike survival game where the studies and experience inside this project can be brought to future game development projects.
