Abstract

Users often experience digital fatigue, emotional disconnection and other issues when using computers for study and work. Existing virtual pet applications provide entertainment features to users but there are less customization and rich emotional features. This project aims to develop a virtual companion engine which is an interactive desktop companion that can improve user engagement, motivation and emotional well being. The major features are that users can develop companions with unique behaviors through customization, interact with desktop applications and provide adaptive emotional support. In addition, the companion will have mechanisms to react based on the user's emotions, such as cheering. The virtual companion engine is developed in Unity and aims to create a fully interactive, intelligent, and user-driven experience.
