Abstract
The development of intelligent lighting systems to fulfil the demands of better energy efficiency and adaptive indoor lighting of consumers has been increasing substantially over time. This project aims to present an intelligent lighting system where illumination is optimized through motion sensing and ambient light detection alongside circadian rhythm-based lighting colour temperature control. These features are achieved through the implementation and integration of passive infrared motion sensors and light-dependent resistors that are connected to a microcontroller to adjust lighting intensity and temperature throughout the day. Through a combination of occupancy-based control and ambient lighting information, the project can reduce unnecessary power consumption while maintaining comfort for the user through healthy lighting throughout the day with the aid of circadian cycle temperature control. The user is also able to have local-based telemetry of their power usage throughout different lengths of time without having to worry about privacy concerns over uploading this information to cloud services which could be under threat to data breaches.
