Abstract
Workplace accidents continue to be a major issue in industries where employees are exposed to a dangerous environment, especially construction and manufacturing industries. Traditional safety solutions are usually reactive rather than preventive, which makes the need for intelligent systems with real-time monitoring and alerts. This project seeks to fill this gap by creating a Vision-Sensor Smart Helmet that incorporates advanced sensing technology for improving worker safety. The goals are to evaluate the performance of vision-based sensors for hazard detection, to prototype a working helmet equipped with vision and warning systems, and to evaluate its performance in simulated conditions. The methodology includes hardware integration of vision sensors and microcontrollers, software development for image processing and hazard recognition and system validation through controlled testing. Initial results indicate that the system is capable of effectively detecting obstacles and potential hazards and providing timely notifications to workers and supervisors, decreasing the chances of accidents. The project concludes that vision-based safety systems can have a decisive role in proactive accident avoidance. Ultimately, the drive for this work is to help make working conditions safer through the use of smart technology, providing a practical and novel solution to reducing human error and enhancing the safety standards of working conditions.
