Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the comparison of short and long intra-contrast rest intervals during complex-contrast training on male volleyball player’s vertical jump and agility performance. A total of 22 male participants participated in this study and divided into short ICRI group (n=11) and long ICRI group (n=11). With age: 21.36 ± 0.67 (SR Group) and 21.18 ± 1.16 (LR Group); weight: 66.36 ± 10.65 (SR Group) and 67.63 ± 6.81(LR Group); height: 171.163 ± 4.29 (SR Group) and 172.27 ± 6.45 (LR Group); years of experience in volleyball: 5 ± 1.94 (SR Group) and 4 ± 1.26 (LR Group). A 6-week intervention for both groups, where SR Group will undergo 30 seconds intra-contrast rest intervals with complex-contrast training and LR Group will undergo 2 minutes 30 seconds for (CCT). The participants were tested on Vertec Vertical Jump Test, Agility T-Test, and 6-RM Back Squat Test. Following the intervention, the results revealed that both groups significantly enhanced Vertical Jump performance (p < .001) for LR group, and (p = .011) for SR group. Besides, both groups significantly enhanced Agility performance (p < .001) for SR group and (p = .017) for LR group. Hence, it was concluded short rest intervals is a better training option to improve agility performance and long rest intervals is better for improving vertical jump performance. Long intra-contrast rest intervals during complex-contrast training may increase agility and vertical jump performance more effectively, according to this study.
