Abstract

Social Networking Sites (SNS) had become one of the common use by all age range. However, most of the SNSs only focus on the functions but not security and privacy issues. Various types of problem such as data theft, leakage of personal information and others had raise the concern of public about the privacy and security of SNSs. Due to this, there is a need to create a more secure SNS which provide advanced protection on user privacy. The proposed SNS can provide the basic functions as like existing SNS and also additional security protection that are newly proposed. Various research papers are reviewed in order to understand the importance of privacy and security setting in SNSs. Apart from that, some existing SNSs such as Twitter and Facebook is reviewed in order to know the basic functions and flaws of it. A survey that target to TARUC students is carried out to understand the main security focus of the public when using SNSs. Besides, this project focus on web based SNS. It covered five main functions of SNSs which are timeline, chat, account setting, password recovery and reporting. The security of all of these functions is the main focus. In this report include only three out of five main modules which are timeline, password recovery and reporting. Iterative and incremental development methodology is used for the entire project. C# Language in Visual Studio 2012 and various libraries are used in developing the proposed SNS. In the system testing, security features of the proposed SNS is the main focus which include password recovery method, database encryption, photo encryption and password protected information. In short, the SNSs developed do meet the proposal. It provide more secure protection to SNS user. However, there is some limitations such as it only provide the basic function of SNS which are chat and posting, the performance issue due to extensive checking user identity, and other which can be the future enhancement for this project.
