Abstract

Low levels of physical activity levels may have a relationship with depressive characteristics. Understanding that there is a relationship between physical activity and depressive traits in the adolescent population may contribute to effective ways to reduce depressive traits and increase physical activity. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between physical activity level and depression symptom among university college students. A total of 387 participants aged between 18-25 years old from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College students completed the questionnaire which consisted of demographic data, physical activity measures using International Physical Activity Questionnaire - Short Form (IPAQ-SF), and depression symptoms measures using Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). As a conclusion, the physical activity level have no significant relationships with depression symptoms among the college university students, showing that there are many other variables that would affect the depressive symptoms. Furthermore, the results of this study also showed that faulty, age group, gender and depression status did not affect the depression symptoms.
