Abstract

Purpose : The project was carried out in order to fulfilment the requirement of Bachelor of Computer Science in Interactive Software Technology. This project is about a game Lerps, a coop puzzle game. The story was stick around 2 young adventurer Nelson and Evan. The game consists of total 10 level, each level was design differently. The purpose of the game is to train the player logics, thinking, puzzle and communication skill, because player will face a lot of different design but same type of puzzle mechanic in the game. Besides, player also must have good communication skill in order to communicate with the partner. Scope : The game Lerps is a coop puzzle game, it require 2 player to start the game. The game consist of 10 unique level. 3 type of puzzle, the environment puzzle, Maze Wall and Switch Bulb puzzle. 2 type of interaction gun, Lerp Gun and Point Gun. 1 procedural environment horror sound generating AI. Lerp Gun will use to solve environment puzzle and Point Gun will use to solve and interact with Maze Wall and Switch Bulb puzzle. Methodology : The development methodology applied was the Waterfall Model, which the design document will be prepared before the development of end product. Development phases : Firstly, the project proposal document will be prepared, project proposal was a document which used to peach the idea to supervisor. After idea has been approved, the next task is to prepare the Chapter 1, an introduction to your project. Project Specification and Game Treatment Document will be included inside the Chapter 1. After that the task is to prepare the Chapter 2, chapter 2 will be a research document about to decide which networking API will be using for the project. Next is to prepare Chapter 3, a very detailed version of Game Treatment Document which called Game Script. After that will start to develop the prototype product. After finish the development of the prototype product, the next task is to prepare the Chapter 4 Testing and Result, which is a document that record the testing result by using back the Test Plan prepared on Chapter 3. After Chapter 4 and final system testing with supervisor, the next document is to prepare draft thesis then only prepare and submit final thesis. Assessment criteria used : Test plan has been designed to test the functionality and compatibility of the core game mechanics and to ensure it working on every level. Results : The end product was passed the testing and meet the satisfy level, however the bug like lerp animation was still unsolved and still need a lot of experiences improvement. The main strengths of the game was able to train the player puzzle solving, logic thinking, communication and problem solving skill. Most of the weakness is about no offline LAN, poor design for exit door and lack of use of the particle system to enhance the game experience. Conclusions and Recommendations : After performing the project, the author learnt the important of the well and detailed document. Besides that, the author also learnt and gained more experience on optimizing the game for low-end device and enhance the gaming experience by applying image effects. The future improvement would be more focus on improving the graphic, update the outdated networking API, more optimization and enhance the AI and improve animation.
