Abstract

The purpose of this current research is to examine the relationship between Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC) students’ level of readiness for SDL and academic achievement. Not only that, TARUC students’ current level of SDL readiness and the factors that influencing SDL readiness, especially students’ educational goal setting, also had been investigated in this research. The data had been collected from 189 TARUC students who had completed the demographic information and Self-Rating Scale of Self-Directed Learning (SRSSDL). The results indicated that majority of TARUC students achieved a moderate to high level of readiness for SDL. Besides that, there was a significant correlation between SDL and academic achievement among TARUC students and the students’ educational goals setting also had a significant impact on SDL. Further studies under this topic are required to be done in order to able in generalizing the findings of the research in Malaysia.
