Abstract
Magazines have always been claimed to portray male and females models within the confinement of stereotypical parameters. It is also believed that these depictions have the power to influence people’s perception. This study strives to examine how English magazines in Malaysia portray men and women on their cover pages; and subsequently if these depictions can shape the perception that youth in the Klang Valley have towards gender image. This issue will be looked into by applying the social learning theory where it is believed that one can learn merely by observing. The result illustrates that magazines adopt skewed representations of models in terms of their appearances and mannerisms. Conversely, respondents also maintain different expectations regarding how men and women should be. These skewed representations of models have influenced how respondents view gender image and subsequently how they view themselves.
