Abstract

This project is initiated to create a filter that is capable of performing as a hearing aid. The fundamentals of the filter design is firstly being studied and calculated and then further implemented into Matlab software for analysis. Upon the completion of the filter design for the hearing aid system, another set of filter also has been designed for the purpose of noise reduction. The design of the filter is first studied based on the audiogram obtain from researches that have been carried out. Equation is created by calculation referring to the audiogram. The designed filter equation is then further analysed to ensure the filter designed is correct. After the study of the filter has completed, it is then implemented by performing filtering with the designed filter to some speech signals. After getting the results, filters for noise reduction is then also created. Designing noise reduction filter will based on kinds of filter used, which is bandpass filter for this project. The designed filter is then tested on filtering some noises and speech combined with noise. After research and studies, the designed filter is then available to be implemented into android apps. The main purpose of this project is to help people who suffered from hearing impaired diseases to have their problem solved by replacing the need of wearing an actual hearing aid to relying on the android app that has been developed. Particularly, after the implementation of filters have been successfully carried out and verified in Matlab software, the integration of the filter into android app has been passed to the other project partner to carry out.
