Abstract

Waste materials had been tested as fire resistant materials in this project. Clam shell and rice husk were chosen due to their availability as waste in this country. Sodium silicate was used as binder and fire resistant additives. Testing were conducted for the control, chip board and both new composite materials. Testing which was conducted is fire testing, which was modified from the testing method specified by the American Society for Testing and Materials standard. All test specimens were produced using blender and hydraulic pump machine. Chip board was used as control to compared with clam shell product and rice husk product. The objective of this project is to create affordable composite material which can be used as substitute to the current fire resistant materials which one high in cost. Besides, another objective of this project is to fully utilize the waste materials. This project studied on two types of composite materials, which was clam shell and rice husk.
