Abstract

“Intelligent Power Socket” Since the introduction of home automation, there is a growing demand and market to fulfill the needs. One of the concepts of home automation is the smart power socket. Although home automation is necessary for living, it promotes convenience and comforts for the end user. The purpose of this project is to create a working prototype that is able to fulfill the problem statement. The chassis of the prototype was made up of acrylic glass; main component of the prototype includes a USB charger (buck converter), Wi-Fi module, relay, mini breadboard and copper contact. Components were installed inside of the rectangular chassis which has the similar dimension and looks similarly to 3 socket extension wire. Prototype was controlled by the Wi-Fi module embedded inside the chassis and receives command from the dedicated web server. Wi-Fi module is programmed by using Arduino IDE. A dedicated web server is set up to act as an intermediary command relay for end user and the prototype which receives the command send by end user through either web browser or Android phone apps. Android phone apps is developed using LUA language and is compiled using Corona SDK. Currently the prototype was able to work and receive the command given by user. However, due to the limitation of free web hosting, 1 of the function of the prototype does not meet up to expectation as the timer is not accurate and has the delay of at most 5 minutes. As a summary, the project is able to achieve its objective and fulfil the problem statement.
