Abstract

IBS (Industrialized Building System) is defined as a construction system which all the components manufactured in a factory, on or off site, positioned and assembled into structure with minimal additional site work (CIDB, 2003). So, IBS has been identified as a construction system that improved construction performance in term of quality, cost effectiveness, safety and health, waste reduction and productivity. The objectives of the research are to identify the issues faced by IBS in construction industry and to investigate the benefits of IBS. Literature review and questionnaire survey have been chosen as the research methodologies. The issue of IBS has been discovered in this research, for example: the insufficient of readiness installation and skillful works program or training, the financial issue of implementing IBS in construction projects, the workers with poor IBS knowledge in the planning, implementation, perception and familiarity. The benefits of IBS that are covered and discussed in this project are in a form of comparison with conventional construction method. Consideration is also made on four essentials items. Example: cost, quality, time, and safety. In addition, suggestions to bring IBS to next level of acceptance among construction industry are being studied as well. Other researchers may conduct a similar study by looking on this dissertation research and produce a better research in future.
