Abstract

Estimating is one of the important activities of the construction industry. Estimating with computer is common use in construction industry nowadays but estimating with traditional still in use in this construction industry. Comparison between estimating traditional method and modern computerized method is doing in this research. In this research, answers will give whether the traditional is the best method or estimating with computer is a best method. If the traditional method is the best, what can be improvement done in computer so estimating with computer will better than traditional. If the computer is the best estimating method, so what can the computer improve? The comparison will be the factor affecting of the estimating with computer and traditional and etc... The factor comparison in this research will be divided into three parts. First part is human factor, second is unforeseen event factor and the last factor will be application factor. The human factor is covers experience, skill of estimator, behavior of estimator, knowledge about construction of estimator and also efficiency of estimator. The unforeseen event is cover time given to estimate, fluctuation price of material estimate, effect of negligence, data collected from site and design of building. The last part application is cover method approach using to estimate, complexity of the estimating sheet, software application (only for computer), effective of estimating and accuracy estimating. The Microsoft Excel is the most common tools use in estimating with computer but normally estimating will be done by traditional then key-into Microsoft Excel. Traditional also applied in computer method. Normally, traditional is the good method to do estimating because it more accuracy less error and it had prove while interview. Improvement for computer is required because in this modern century computer will be the tools using every industry. There are suggestions given by interviewees to improve the software requirement for construction industry. Improvement of computer is happen every day but nothing is perfect. Hence, given suggestions will never end because after this problem solve a few year later another problem will be arise.
