Abstract

The objective of this project is to build a mini greenhouse for home-grown orchid where temperature and humidity of the environment is monitored and controlled. Any out-of- range parameters will issue an alert through LEDs; buzzer and cooling fan will be activated when the certain temperature was detected; exhaust fan and irrigation system (water) will be activated when the certain humidity was detected. Features of this project consist of the temperature based control system and humidity based control system. Both systems are controlled by a microcontroller, PIC16F877A. The temperature based control system consists of a temperature sensor, LM35 which constantly measures the environment temperature and if the environment temperature is not in the range of 21 OC-270C, the PICI 6F877A will activate the led, buzzer and cooling fan to maintain the environment temperature of the plant (orchids). Meanwhile, for humidity based control system is exhaust fan and irrigation system (water) will be activated when the environment humidity is not in the range of 50%-70%. This is to ensure that environment is remains at preset humidity conditions.. This project consists of hardware, software and mechanical part. The hardware consists of circuit construction and debugging while the software consists of coding troubleshooting, design schematic and PCB layout, and design frame of the mini greenhouse. The mechanical part consists of build out a mini-water pump for irrigation watering system. The software used in this project is MPLAB v 8.36 with Hi-TECH C compiler to write the C language program. The main controller of the system is PIC 16F877A microcontroller. The final outcome of this project that have achieved the objective of this project, which means the whole system have able to function properly and provide an environment is remains at preset temperature and humidity conditions for orchid.
