Abstract

For our project, we will be doing the "Automated Library's Book Searching System". As the title stated, we are modifying the library book searching experience into an automated system. This means normally we will be searching for a book by going past the book racks that have the category of book that we want. By Automated the system, now what we need to do is just selecting the category of books that we want from the system. Then the system will bring the book rack that containing the category of books that you want to the front of you. There is no need to walk around to search for the book that is required. By using an automated the system, more space in the library also can be saved. This is because, by bringing out the book rack to the user, the user does not need to walk in between the book rack to search for a book. Hence, the walk-way between the book-racks can be eliminated. For our system, we will be using Visual Basic to work as the user interface for the user to select the category of book that he/she wants. Then we will use a conveyor system to bring the book- rack to the user. The movement of the book-rack will be controlled by using PLC. The principle of the system will work like this: The PLC will receive a signal from the user by a Visual Basic program. After processing the signal, the PLC will drive the motor to move the conveyor line in order to transfer out the book rack. To retrieve back the book-rack, the user just has to select "retrieve" then the book rack will go back to its original position.
