Abstract

Design and Fabrication of Genesis Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Airframe Teo Ping Siang Commonly, the industries is using UAV winged aircraft and helicopters to perform the duty. However in the use of monitoring purpose, a better hovering platform is needed. Therefore, Centaurus Technology, a local aerospace technology provider seeks for an alternative VTOL platform for the purpose which is the design of quad rotor. Quad rotor had been a hit in the United States and they are planning to fabricate a cargo aircraft based on the principle. Currently it had been increasing demand on quad rotor in Malaysia, lots of researching is being carried out at this moment by local universities. Therefore the prototyping of this Cen-Tech Quad which is the first made in Malaysia could help the boost the industry. The Quad rotor fabricated is an enhanced version of electrical powered quad rotor available in the market as it is able to carry a total of 8kg of weight after modification and 6kg before modification compared to existing market product that only able to carry an 4-5 kg of weight in total. The extra reserved weights of this prototype is able provides the ability to install alternative payload such as thermal camera and night vision in the future. Moreover, the low cost of prototyping makes the price more competitive in the UAV market. Besides, the miniature surveillance kit is able to perform the live transmission of in flight visual to the ground and this could help the pilot in manoeuvring the aircraft easily and thus intelligence gathering on the spot. This dissertation consists of the history, theoretical principle of working and the fabrication explanation of the making of the quad rotor prototype.
