Abstract

Electronic devices such as smart phone, laptop and tablet have become an essential equipment that people need to stay contact with people and receive information. But these electronic devices need to recharge after used for a period of time and it cause inconvenient for people who always stay outside of house and travel around. Take smart phone as example, the battery consumption rate is so high that we need to recharge it around 3 to 4 times a day if the phone is connecting to internet. Powerbank does help to solve this problem, but partially as powerbank still need to recharge when the power inside it is fully drawn. The solution to this problem is portable generator which can constantly supply electricity. The common portable gasoline generator is not a very good choice as it is uncomfortable to carry around, high sound level during operation, flammable, emit dangerous gases throughout the process and low preservation time of fuel. In this final year project, I intend to design and fabricate a generator that runs on permanent magnets. The concept of the prototype is to convert magnetic energy into kinetic energy and then electricity. The benefits are zero emission, low sound level, non-flammable and long preservation time. By creating imbalance force between magnets, motion is being produced and it is converts into electricity. As the concept of this prototype is very new and fresh in our society, not much related information and data can be found but the objectives of this final year project managed to achieve through dedication and hardwork. The prototype able to produce 0.0149Watt of power. Although the power generated is low, but I believed it can be improved with sufficient resources and bring contribution to our society.
