Final year project is an important component to provide the final year Bachelor of Engineering student with the opportunity to demonstrate advance knowledge of a specialized field that is essential for a career in research and development, which covers project planning, literature review, project implementation, technical writing and oral presentation within stipulated time. The title of our final year project is to design and fabricate an automated multipurpose vegetables slicing machine. An automated multipurpose vegetables slicing machine is a device that allows the user to perform multiple functions within a single machine. A survey was conducted to 40 participants in order to study and identify the specifications of the machine through customer preference. According to the data collected from the survey, we had found that functionality of the machine is the most important criterion for an automated multipurpose vegetables slicing machine. Thus, we came out with an idea to design a machine that is able to perform three different type of functions or operations which include vegetables slicing, dough rolling and sugarcane crushing. The automated multipurpose vegetables slicing machine consist of two different compartments where one is for the crushing and rolling operations while another one is for the slicing operation. For the crushing and rolling operations, the compartment consists of 3 rollers which located in L-shape. On the other hand, there will be 2 shafts with cutting blades for the vegetables slicing operation. The material used for the automated multipurpose vegetables slicing machine is stainless steel 304 which is corrosion resistance. The machine can be easily controlled by rotating the motor speed controller. The design of this automate multipurpose vegetables slicing machine was the results from the discussion among the team mate. Firstly, a few designs were drawn manually and the dimension of each part were set. Then, we use the SolidWorks software to draw each single part and assembly each part as a whole. We evaluated each design and the design with the best functionality was selected. After that, we starts to order some material such as sprocket, roller chain, stainless steel plate and rod, motor, bearing, bolts and nuts. Once the materials had arrived, we continue with the fabrication and assembly work. We perform experiment for each function to test the efficiency of the machine. In conclusion, the design of our automated multipurpose vegetable slicing machine are portable, time saving and sustainable. The target market of our machine is food & beverage industries and food stall.
