Abstract
A new open circuit subsonic wind tunnel is designed and fabricated for educational and research purpose. This project is to study the flow condition, drag and lift force and the pressure of specimen inside the wind tunnel. This wind tunnel is designed by doing research and calculation. The main components of wind tunnel are contraction cone, test section, diffuser and axial fan. The results in the wind tunnel are obtained by using traditional method. The pressure of air around specimen was measured using manometer. An anemometer is used to obtain the air velocity. The drag force was calculated by using trigonometric function on the lift force measured using balance equipment and angle measured using protractor. The air flow is visualized with the aid of smoke generator. The wind tunnel was validated by conducting an experiment with a three dimensional cylinder specimen which made of nylon. The experiment result shows that the wind tunnel was ready to be used for flow visualization. Whereas, the result for drag and lift force and pressure distribution along surface of circular cylinder shall be improved in the future.
