Abstract

The semi active MR damper combine with a controller is widely used in automotive engineering field. Many engineering install MR damper into car seat suspension system to improve ride comfort. In this research to investigate MR damper applied difference type of controller such as fuzzy logic combine with PID controller and PIPD controller in car seat suspension system. Beside that, semi-active suspension system compare with the passive suspension system will be analysis and study the result is shown the improvement between semi active suspension system and passive suspension system. This research purpose is MR damper used in semi-active car seat suspension system should improve the suspension performance to improve the ride comfort. Other than that, Fuzzy logic combine with PID controller and PIPD controller also investigate to test the performance. In this research aim to investigate the Fuzzy-PID and Fuzzy-PIPD controller with MR damper in semi-active suspension system to improve the car seat suspension system. Furthermore, the MR damper was applied in quarter car model as quarter semi-active suspension system. The base excitation signal (speed bump),quarter car model, MR damper model is built and validated to test the performance suspension system in MATLAB Simulink. The PID, PIPD, Fuzzy-PID and Fuzzy-PIPD controller was tuned to get the better performance of controller. The speed bump dimension was according Malaysia government standard. (Melizarani et.al .2015). The MR damper was validated according similar result compare the force-velocity graph and force-displacement graph. (Stutz et.al 2011). In the MATLAB Simulink show the result fuzzy-PID and fuzzy-PIPD controller applied with MR damper in car seat suspension system can improve the performance compare to passive car seat suspension system. The different car speed test the performance of the controller was done and the result show the Fuzzy-PID and Fuzzy-PIPD controller with MR damper was provided better performance compare to the passive suspension in low speed car across the speed bump.(Page53) The lower the car speed across the speed bump, the better the performance of the semi-active suspension system.Base on the result, Fuzzy-PID and Fuzzy-PIPD in semi active car seat suspension is successful applied and the Fuzzy-PIPD still have potential to be further improved. The fuzzy rule base and fuzzy membership function can be design for the MR damper.
