Abstract

In order to remain competitive in the global market, the enterprises have undertaken many attempts striving for enhanced manufacturing efficiency. Most organisations seek to attain real-time transparent data for better decision making with reliable management capability in resources and transactions flow. Tracking and tracing products throughout the plants are deemed necessary to lower the cycle time and costs. The current thesis aims to define the implementation of system integration solution that addresses the organisation needs for real-time modularised operations. By establishing system integration, the functional integration platform makes all the component software solutions to execute manufacturing operations in co-exist, synchronised manner. The use of manufacturing execution system (MES) in combination with the enterprise resources planning (ERP) and radio frequency identification (RFID) is capable of utilising the dormant potential of the cyber based application resulted from the interactions between these software solutions. MES is the platform that bridges the gap between the top-level information systems, ERP with the bottom level information systems, automated production lines. The collaboration of the ERP with RFID enables validation of the material and goods transactions and improving the traceability and tracking features of the manufacturing system. The roles and functions of these system integration applications can be studied through a research carried out in the Kian Joo Can Factory Berhad Batu Caves. The prototype of RFID-ERP system is constructed using Arduino IDE software that presents the locations of the products and the stock volumes across different locations with the transaction time recorded. The prototype results are compared with the manually recorded data in ERP H5 Infor M3 software from Kian Joo. The performance of the prototype RFID-ERP system is also compared with the industrial RFID system. The features of this prototype RFID-ERP grant real time monitor view of the changes in locations and stock level across different locations in organised manner.
