Abstract

The aim of this research is to propose a similar collision warning system that available in the four wheelers but applied onto the two wheelers such as motorcycle by using ultrasonic sensor. This paper included the literature review on ultrasonic sensors, analysis of the existing warning algorithms and the methodology in making the collision warning system. The program codes of the designed collision warning system consisted of a few stages, such as the distance measurement, the velocity measurement, implementation of warning algorithm into the system and also the respond output of the designed system. The designed system give warning signal to the user based on the “warning distance” produced by the implemented warning algorithm and being compared with the relative distance between the leading vehicle and the following vehicle. The whole designed collision warning system in this paper were also tested with a custom build testing rig to make sure the designed system works perfectly fine and meet all the requirements verified in the literature review.
