Abstract

Many studies found the baby hammock brings a lot of benefits to the and baby. The effects of rocking are help baby to sleep better, help them to calm down while crying and also improvement in growth. However, although the baby hammock is found to be good more than harm, some sudy also found that long term of exposure to motion sickness might harm the baby health in many ways. Baby might suffer effects on health and motion sickness that cause by the whole body vibration when being rocked in long duration. Hence, in this study the motion sickness level and potential health risk for using manual and auto rocking baby hammock will be determinate base on International Standard ISO 2631-1 (1997). In this paper, analysis of difference in potential health risk, motion sickness between auto and manual has been carry out. It is found that both auto and manual rocking speed is also safe to use to rock babies below 1 hour of exposure to whole body vibration. The baby hammock should not use for 3 hours and above as it indicated high health risk for both auto and manual rocking. In this project, the result found that motion sickness at 0.1Hz and 0.5Hz is low for both auto and manual rocking and it is recommended the design of operating frequency of baby hammock can take consideration on this. Moreover, the result shows the illness rating for using the baby hammock is 0 for both auto and manual rocking which means it is predicted that baby will not feel unwell or ill when expose to 2hour of motion sickness. However, in this experiment no real babies are involved, Therefore, the results in the paper provide relevant information for further researches involving real baby and consideration in operating frequency in design of baby hammock.
