Abstract
he production line of Kian Joo Can Factory Berhad that manufacture candy can was fully automated to manufacture candy can with high production rate. However, the packing station of its production line is still in fully manual operation. Four labors were needed in packing station to pack the candy can, which is not favorable for a fully automated production line that seek for minimal labor force requirement and high production rate. Hence, this industry project was present to improve its packing station by implementation of machinery to reduce number of labor needed and increase packing rate that match with its high production rate. A flowchart is made to plan the activities involved in this project. A Gantt chart and Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) were created as planned schedule for this project. After site visit to inspect the candy can production line, study and research has been made continuously to study the basic and theoretical knowledge required to design the machinery. Different types of packing station present were studied to understand their basic design and working principle. Various materials and components were studied to obtain the knowledge for structural design of machinery. Brainstorm is carried out to create preliminary conceptual idea for three main process of packing station, which are flipping the candy can upside down, arranging it in order and handling of candy can layer into the carton box. Magnetic system were considered to be reliable for candy cans handling. The conceptual idea decided was then proceed to detail design to determine the exact dimensions of components required and some slight change were made to improve the reliability of the machinery. Bill of material were made and order of components was made and while waiting for the components delivery, fabrication of machinery was started in the workshop. The fabricated machinery was completely built that following dimensions in technical drawing prepared. Testing was done and the machinery was able to its function as expected. After IT department completely installed their program and pneumatics connection, it was expected to catch up with production rate of 1 can per second and reduce 2 labor required for packing station.
