Abstract
Wheel rim is the most significant component of a vehicle. It allows a vehicle to travel to different locations. Hence, it must be manufactured perfectly to perform all its functions. In this paper, 3 designs of spokes wheel will be developed to undergo fatigue and static analysis. The material of the wheel rim will be aluminum 6061-T6 because it is lighter in weight and it is a better heat conductor. The size of the wheel rim will be fixed to 250 mm in width and 450 mm in diameter. The sedan car that has been chosen is Volkswagen Passat and its curb weight is 1550 kg. To gain more understanding on this project, related articles, books and journals have been studied. All 3-dimentional wheel rims were designed by using Solidworks. After that, all generated models were imported to ANSYS for fatigue and static analysis. Fatigue analysis such as radial endurance test will be carried out by using ANSYS. In fatigue analysis, the results of equivalent (Von-Mises) stress, deformation, safety factor and life cycles will be obtained. In static analysis, results such as equivalent (Von-Mises) stress and deformation of the wheel rim will be obtained. All the results obtained for all designs of wheel rim will undergo comparison. Lastly, Design 3 has been chosen as the optimum design of wheel rim as it has the highest fatigue strength.
