Abstract

The overall purpose of the research is maximizing the usage of additive manufacturing technology in construction field, especially to construct infrastructure that usually the construction area is at common zone where significantly increasing the probability of risk and have strict time constraint, and to alleviate disadvantages, environmentally, socially or economically, caused by operations of conventional formwork systems in constructions. In this project, the most related process, Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM), is discussed together with the state-of-the-art of additive manufacturing in construction field and the challenges that have yet to resolved. Calculations are done according to researched formulas and data follow by a comparison of the properties, materials, methods of construction, costs and other related problems with standard structure to justify the gains and the idea of replacing traditional method in the future. From this project, an idea of implementing additive manufacturing is presented, however, assumptions made and uncertainties are to be solved during real case prototyping.
