Abstract

Any damage or cracks occur on a structure will change the physical properties such as the mode shapes, modal damping and natural frequencies of the structures. There was a lot method for detection on crack or damage such as mode shape-based method, frequency-based method and etc. But these methods were more focus on normal crack and detection for small crack are not fully concern about yet. This project will be more concern on the small crack on beam structure and an experiment which is impact testing was carried out. The normalized frequency responses were obtained and classified by carry out the impact testing on cantilever beam. With the comparison on sum of FRF, comparison on FRF of node one by one and comparison on mode shapes, the different types of damage or crack was detected and located. This shows that the vibration-based method is able to detect and locate the damage or crack in beam structure.
