Abstract
This Project Study was done to see the possibility of improving one of the manufacturing systems to enhance and increase the productivity of the manufacturing. After discussed with Kian Joo Can Factory on the manufacturing sequences, some systems might need enhancement so as to improve the product quality, reduced the spoil and increase the production rate of the manufacturing. The manufacturing components that focused on are the Mega Pressing Machine and round plate 1LTR End Polar Punching Machine that produced round tin plate can lid. Currently the formed can lids are being collected manually using foreign labours. Kian Joo Management felt that the Study of replacing the manual collection to more systematically and automated collection of can lids was deemed necessary. The round plate can lids produced by the pressing machine are usually dropped into the collector straight away. This direct dropping into collector straight away generated the impact force that might deformed the appearance of the round plate can lids that produced. The development of the systematically and automatically round plate can lids stacking and collecting could reduce the impact force on can-lids and deformation of the can-lids could be minimised. Collection using this automated stacking method might also be possible to avoid the rate of spoil so as to improve the quality and quantity of the product. The designs was done on a step-by-step systematic approach in the process of thinking to reach the goal. The conceptual design phase began with the development method and the embodiment development phase and thorough engineering phase followed. Some structural calculations of the metal frame were done to ensure the structural integrity of the metal frame design. Solidworks graphic modelling and animation shown the possibility of collecting and stacking the can-lids in automatically and systematically. The outcome of the Research clearly shown that the replacement of round plate can-lids collection from using labour intensive to automated stacking and collection system could be possible. Further recommendations were highlighted in the Chapter 5 are deemed necessary prior to making the final decision to proceed the improvement.
