Abstract
The microburst phenomenon produces strong, varying wind conditions near the surface that have the ability to disrupt the landing attempts of many aircraft. The advent of forward-looking detection systems and advanced computer systems enables the optimal estimation theory to be applied in predicting landing feasibility, thus aiding in the decision-making of the pilot. In this research, a basic MATLAB program featuring a wind shear emergency warning system based on the linear Kalman state estimator was developed to predict information on future aircraft’s state throughout the landing trajectory. The inputs to the system include the microburst specifications and the initial aircraft state. The developed program was able to map the landing trajectory of the aircraft by reading data from estimated state vectors,
