Abstract

The optimum cutting parameters in milling material SUS316 stainless steel workpiece material was studied in this research and analysed. The optimum cutting condition was selected in ordered to reduce the tool wear and optimizing the cutting parameters with different cutting speed and feed rate with 6 mm diameter cutting tool. The concept of cutting condition was studied in the past journal paper. This experiment was an improvement worked from past thesis. Past thesis found that cutting edge radius with 30 μm and 0.1 width of cut was optimal parameter to machine SUS316 stainless steel workpiece, in ordered to enhance and improved the cutting condition, this rounded experiment had changed the spindle speed and feed rate to have been 4000, 5000 and 6000 RPM and 350, 400 and 450 mm/min and fixed cutting edge radius to 30 μm and 0.1 width of cut. The experiment was designed in nine set of experiments and the result was recorded to the design of experiment software and optimal cutting condition was obtained for machining SUS316 materials to reduce the tool wear. The experiment was ran on a 3 axis CNC machine which was JOHNFORD VMC-500 CNC machine. The tool wear was observed by a digital microscope known as the Dino Lite premier AM4113ZT. The experiment results were recorded in the design of expert software for analysis purpose and the desirability was predicted for optimal cutting condition. The optimal cutting parameter in milling SUS316 stainless steel material was spindle speed with 4000 RPM with feed rate 350 mm/min which was selected by design of expert software based on the lowered tool wear results which was 0.002 mm.
