Abstract

The proposed paper focuses on the study of analysis of the cooling efficiency of a new conceptual design of a counterflow cooling tower. The proposed explanation for the construction of the cooling tower is to provide a basis for the production of the productivity of the cooling tower where the cooling towers are required and used for heat removal purposes by removing waste heat generated as by-products in the industrial segments into the atmosphere by cooling a hot water at a lower altitude. Cooling tower means the refrigerated systems are run cost-effectively and energy-efficiently. The system used to build the cooling tower is achieved by referring to research data, adjusting those parameters of the cooling tower model and simulating the results to determine the performance of the cooling tower, such as cooling efficiency and loss of evaporation. Pioneer Cooling Tower are used as the reference model to conduct this analysis which the model number is t-100 which have 100 tons capacity. Simulation for computer fluid dynamic (CFD) and SolidWorks modelling will be carried out on all the parameters created and also the reference model. For the methodologies to change the parameters, firstly, the air inlet pipes are changed which are 0˚, 30˚ horizontally inclined and 30˚ vertically inclined to make sure the contact area between hot water inlet and cold air inlet are different. Secondly, the convergence nozzle is designed and mounted to the air inlet pipe to increase the air inlet velocity and also the contact time between hot water inlet and cold air inlet. The design model for 30˚ vertically inclined and without convergence nozzle are optimized and determined in this project.
