Abstract
Automation is a necessity in industries because it not only seeks improve the quality of life for humans at both home and work, it allows the distribution of both quality products and services to be made available at faster rates, and reduces down time and human error. It is what is currently propping up our world’s manufacturing chains. Application of automation to assembly processes is vitally important to meet the requirements of manufacturing and production. Feeders form a critical part of automated assembly lines. Can manufacturing company has faced a problem in one of the manufacturing processes that is the power press process. Currently, most of the company was using manpower to feed the aluminum lid to the power press machine. Manual feeding is not consistent and affect the production efficiency. This project aims to design an automated feeder machine and a conveyor system to transfer the aluminum lid from the automated feeder machine to the power press machine so that the manufacturing process of a can manufacturing company can become a fully automated manufacturing company. This project also aims to simulate the automated feeder machine and conveyor to ensure that the automated feeder machine and conveyor system are safe to use. The major purposes of the use of automated manufacturing process are to increase the company’s productivity, improve the product quality and manufacturing cycle time. Research and analysis were done in the literature review to gather more information to design the automated feeder machine. SolidWorks had been used to design the Conceptual Design 1 and Conceptual Design 2. After comparing the two conceptual design, a final design had decided. Based on the final design, the automated feeder machine will automatically feeds the aluminum lid to the power press machine. The conveyor system was designed to transfer the aluminum lid from the automated feeder machine to the power press machine. SolidWorks had been used to perform the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of the automated feeder machine and the conveyor system. SolidWorks had also been used to perform the motion analysis of the conveyor.
